Put the Calm Back in Your Holidays
November 18, 2022
A popular Christmas carol contains a beautiful lyric: “All is calm…all is bright.” But sometimes the holidays seem to be anything but calm. Shopping, wrapping gifts, cooking, hosting events and everything else that makes the holidays special can also wear you out mentally if not physically.
But before you become a holiday hater, try some of these tips to destress your life. And discover natural solutions that can help.
- Remember to Move. Walking, yoga or any other exercise triggers the release of endorphins, which boost mental health. Take time to move every day!
- Budget. Don’t overspend in December and trigger regret in January.
- Take Time Out. Indulge in a massage or relaxing bath. You do have time, I promise.
- Sleep. Burning your candle at both ends to get every teeny tiny thing done will make you a crazy person sooner or later. Let it go and get some rest.
Nature has some terrific stress-busters to help you feel more calm. And we’ve bundled a few of them in one of our all-time, best-selling products: Nutri-Calm®. This super-blend gives your nervous system an extra boost to handle holiday and everyday stress. Key ingredients include:
- Schisandra fruit. These bright red berries, popular in Chinese Medicine, have adaptogenic properties. That is, they help the body deal with the effects of occasional stress. This super berry helps regulate neurotransmitters and supports brain energy. Schisandra’s powerful antioxidants are linked to cognitive and behavioral support.
- B Vitamins. This “family” of nutrients boosts energy levels, brain function and neurotransmitter production. Stress depletes B vitamins, so you need to re-supply your body daily.
- Valerian root. This herb is the most common supplement used for relaxation and calm in America. Why? Because it works. Research shows that valerian root supports the brain’s response to occasional stress, and it helps with sleep.
- Passionflower flower. Traditionally used by Native Americans, passionflower supports restfulness, calm and – BONUS – digestion.
- Hops flower. More than just an ingredient in beer, hops helps with relaxation. A recent study demonstrated that hops extract improves the body’s response to stress and anxiousness.
- Choline. This nutrient helps with brain “busy-ness.” Research shows that people who get more choline in their diet have lower levels of anxiousness. I’ll take two.
- Bee Pollen. This perfect food, endorsed by Hippocrates himself, contains amino acids, proteins, vitamins and other nutrients that support energy levels.
